GR2 | GC2 | GR2-H/M/S | GH2/GM2/GS2

Q
The built-in battery of GC series has run out. Is it possible to replace the battery with a new one?
A

Unfortunately, it is impossible to replace the batteries of GC/GH series, the discontinued counters.
It has become possible to replace the batteries since GC1/GH1/GM1/GS1 series.
GC2 | GH2/GM2/GS2

Q
Is it possible to use GC2 series as a drop-in replacement of GC series?
A

Yes, but if you are using a switch [or a contact] for sending input signals, there is a possibility that the switch will not work normally. This is because of sink current from the GC2 series to the switch: sink current from GC2 series is very small.
In case the switch does not work with GC2 series normally, it is necessary to consider using a switch [or a contact] that is capable of handling micro electric current, or modifying the circuit diagram as shown below so that the sink current from the GC2 series to the switch will increase.

Please choose a resistance value R that will let approximately 1 mA current flow through it with external power-supply voltage applied between 2 VDC to 30 VDC.
GC2 | GH2/GM2/GS2

Q
The electronic counter displays a value that is larger than the correct value. What is the possible cause?
A

Please check whether “Count Speed” of the counter is set properly.
If you are using a dry contact like a switch or relay at a high Count Speed setting (ex. 1 kHz) , there is a possibility that the electronic counter is affected by chattering. In this case, please select lower Count Speed setting (ex. 30 Hz).

Q
The electronic counter erroneously makes counts. What is the possible cause?
A

Please consider changing the layout of cables and/or relocating the electronic counter. There is a possibility that the electronic counter is affected by external noises.
In some cases, the situation improves by installing a capacitor (0.01 to 0.1 μF) between an input terminal and a GND terminal of the counter. Appropriate capacitance depends on Count Speed, operating environment, etc. Please select a capacitor with an appropriate withstand voltage based on input voltage.

Q
Is it possible to connect a voltage-output sensor to an electronic counter that accepts open-collector input?
A

As long as it is NPN output, the voltage-output sensor can work with E10 series, or other electronic counters of which Input Mode is selectable: the user is supposed to select open-collector input. Please note that Input Logic can be reverse in some cases.
If the sensor makes PNP output, it does not work with our electronic counters.

Q
What is the setting of Prewarn?
A

An electronic preset counter with this feature makes an output in the following way.

– When the counter is on its way to a preset value by adding:
Before reaching the preset value, the counter makes an output at the value of “(Preset value) – (Prewarn value)”.

Ex. Preset value = 10, Prewarn value = 2
The counter makes an output at 8 when it is adding to 10.

– When the counter is on its way to a preset value by subtracting:
Before reaching the preset value, the counter makes an output at the value of “(Preset value) + (Prewarn value)”.

Ex. Preset value = 10, Prewarn value = 2
The counter makes an output at 12 when it is subtracting to 10.
E21 | E60 | E48 | G48-N

Q
What is Overrun?
A

When Overrun is activated, the electronic preset counter won’t be reset even after reaching its preset value and will keep on counting.
E21 | E10 | E60 | E48 | G48-N | MD(preset)

Q
What is Auto-reset?

E21 | E10 | E60 | E48 | G48-N | MD(preset)

Q
What does "Display is frozen during output although counting is available." mean?
A

This is related to how the electronic preset counter treats input pulses while making an output.
If you select an operation mode that includes the said description, the counter will keep on counting input pulses while an output is made.
On the other hand, the count value on its display will be fixed to the value that is reached when the output is made. The value on the counter will be updated as soon as the counter stops making the output signal.
E60 | E48 | G48-N

Q
What does "Does not count during output." mean?
A

This is related to how the electronic preset counter treats input pulses while making an output.
If you select an operation mode that includes the said description, the counter will stop counting input pulses while an output is made.
Therefore, the count value on its display will be fixed to the value that is reached when the output is made.
E60 | E48 | G48-N

Q
What is 90°quadrature input?
A

It is a kind of input method in which 90-degree phase difference is made between input A and input B, so that the direction of addition and the one of subtraction can be detected by an electronic counter.
Some models of CT1 series can perform 90° quadrature output. Receiving input from such a model of CT1 series, an electronic counter can count up when the Wheels/Pulleys rotate in forward direction and count down when they rotate in reverse direction.

RY1 | RY | MWC | Wheels/Pulleys | CR | CT1 | CS

Q
Soon after the installation of the length counter/sensor, large errors in measurement have been observed. Is this a defective product?
A

There is a possibility that the Wheels/Pulleys are slipping, which depends on the object of measurement.
Please consider the way of installation and/or adjusting the pressure of the Wheels/Pulleys on the object of measurement.
RY1 | RY | MWC | Wheels/Pulleys | CR | CT1 | CS

Q
What kind of phenomenon is it that the Wheels/Pulleys are slipping?
A

It is a phenomenon that the Wheels/Pulleys are not rotating normally but are suffering some slips over the object of measurement.
The force of friction between the Wheels/Pulleys and the object of measurement prevents the Wheels/Pulleys from sliding easily over the surface of the object. Therefore, the Wheels/Pulleys slip when this force of friction gets lower, and the real length of object will be larger than the measured length.
RY1 | RY | MWC | Wheels/Pulleys | CR | CT1 | CS

Q
What is the factor that decides the accuracy of measurement by length counters?
A

It is the accuracy of circumference of Wheels/Pulleys.
The counter itself is driven by coupling structure of gears, therefore, does not cause any error.
In case length measurement with high precision is required, please consider employing the rubber Wheels/Pulleys with calibration certificate.
RY1 | RY | MWC | Wheels/Pulleys

Q
Are length sensors CT1/CS series equipped with bearings?
A

All the models are equipped with ball bearings.
However, some models of the old type CT series do not have any ball bearings.
